The Ph.D. in SDHE requires a minimum of 108 quarter hours of approved credit beyond the bachelor's degree. The major in SDHE consists of 90 quarter hours including the dissertation. The minor consists of 18 quarter hours of approved graduate credit. A program of study is developed by the student in consultation with the major professor and the student’s graduate committee. Preliminary written and oral examinations are required to advance to candidacy. A dissertation based on original research is required. Three quarters of continuous full time enrollment are necessary to fulfill the residence requirements.
The master’s degree (M.S.) in SDHE requires a minimum of 45 quarter hours of approved graduate credit. The major in SDHE consists of 30 quarter hours. A thesis is required. The minor consists of 15 quarter hours of approved graduate credit. For the M.A., the student must show foreign language proficiency equivalent to that attained at the end of a second-year university course in that language with a grade of C (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) or better.
