Beyond the Start-Up: Taking Your Family Business to the Next Level

Family Business 360 Breakfast

As family businesses grow they become more complex with each generation. One of the primary challenges for any family enterprise is moving beyond the "start-up" mentality to prepare for the next level of growth and complexity. What worked for the founders when the business was just starting out will probably not sustain the business for long term success. This session will look at critical considerations for a family business to move to the next level, including:

  • Advisory boards; should you have one, and how to structure it
  • Preparing for growth by raising capital and focusing on key personnel
  • Preparing for succession by looking at business structure, shareholder agreements, and transition plans

Special family business panelists  Michael Morrow and Miriam Berman, husband and wife founders of Nutcase Inc., will help to illustrate these concepts by sharing insights from their journey as one-person company to growing, family business with international markets. They've had to make several key decisions about their company to prepare for the future and will share successes and challenges to help attendees understand the questions that should be asked in a growing family business.
