Francesca Gino, author and associate professor of business management at Harvard Business School, will discuss how we make decisions and the factors that can distract us from our goals during a free public talk at Oregon State University Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Part of the College of Business’ Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series, the event begins at 7 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium of the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St., Corvallis.

Headshot of Francesca GinoGino, author of the book “Sidetracked: Why our decisions get derailed and what we can do to stick to the plan,” will talk about what elements influence the choices we make and why sometimes there is a mismatch between what we want and what we end up doing.

Gino teaches Decision Making and Negotiation in the MBA and Executive Education programs at HBS, and also co-teaches Ph.D. courses on Behavioral Approaches to Decision Making and Experimental Methods.

Her research focuses on ethics, judgment and decision-making, and has been featured in The Economist, The New York Times, Newsweek, Scientific American, Psychology Today and The Wall Street Journal.

A native of Italy, Gino holds a Ph.D. in economics and management from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Trento.
