Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning program is designed to prepare students to earn the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. Our top priority is to ensure that our programs meet the needs of employers and students. For that reason, our certificate is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board Registered Program.

Coursework

The Certificate in Financial Planning requires 27 credit-hours of coursework, including:

BA 540 Corporate Finance (3 credits)

FIN 542 Investments (3 credits)

FIN 550 Fundamentals of Financial Planning (4 credits)

FIN 551 Financial Planning I (4 credits)

FIN 552 Financial Planning II (3 credits)

FIN 553 Financial Planning III (6 credits) 

MRKT 588 Personal Selling (4 credits)

Admission Requirements

The Graduate Certificate program is accepting applications for Spring 2018 and Fall 2018. An application to the Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning requires the following documentation, along with a $75 application fee, payable by credit card.

1. Application Form

The Graduate Certificate program uses the Oregon State University Graduate School’s online application form. The application form requires completion of several short answer questions detailing your motivation for admission and goals upon completion of the program.

2. Transcript(s)

A transcript from the institution conferring your undergraduate degree is required. Transcripts from any subsequent degrees or coursework completed beyond your undergraduate studies are required as well.  Unofficial transcripts (a copy of an official transcript) may be scanned and uploaded to your online application. Applications will be reviewed with unofficial transcripts; however, admitted students will be required to submit official documents at the time of admission.

Admission adheres to the University’s minimum academic requirements for admission to graduate study OSU. These requirements pertain to previous degrees earned and prior academic performance.  Generally, the Admissions Committee is looking at least for completion of an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited (US) or recognized (International) college or university with a cumulative GPA at or above 3.0/4.0. 3. English Language Proficiency

If you are required to demonstrate English Proficiency by submitting scores from the TOEFL or IELTS, please review the following minimum score requirements:

   TOEFL iBT: 91 total score with a sub score of at least 22 on each section. 

   TOEFL PBT: 575 A separate interview to assess speaking will be required.

   IELTS: 7 with a sub score of at least 6 in each section

The OSU MBA program does not offer conditional admission. If you are required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores, then you must meet the minimum requirements to be admitted. For more information on who is required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores, please read more details on the Application Process.
