I have been involved in various research projects which utilize the thermal manikin, such as the evaluation of thermal properties of various military helmets. I have also been involved in various research projects related to sustainable textiles.
Before becoming a faculty member in Oregon State University’s Department of Design and Human Environment (DHE), I worked in the textile and apparel industry as a textile laboratory technician and was involved in various projects related to textile and apparel product development. My industry experience, coupled with my graduate education led me to my current position. As a DHE faculty member, I teach textile courses and manage DHE’s Textile and Apparel Testing Laboratory (TAPTL). Our facility offers chemical and physical testing of textiles, as well as thermal testing of apparel and related items. As the laboratory manager, I am responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and calibration of all equipment within the laboratory, as it is my responsibility to maintain a fully operational laboratory. I act as a liaison between OSU faculty, faculty from other universities, and industry researchers who are interested in having products tested. Furthermore, I oversee all research projects involving the use of TAPTL’s thermal manikin. I have been involved in various research projects which utilize the thermal manikin, such as the evaluation of thermal properties of various military helmets. I have also been involved in various research projects related to sustainable textiles, as well as textiles used in health care applications. As a DHE faculty member for the past two years, my involvement in research has ranged from research design, data collection, and data analysis, as well as writing journal manuscripts and grant proposals.
