Oregon State University, Senior Instructor I Apparel Design: Winter 2006-Present

Computer Aided Design (3 credit) Introduction to the Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator and Photoshop. Instruction in drawing, image editing, flat illustrations and textile design. Lec/studio.

PERFORMANCE APPAREL INNOVATION II (3 credit) Develop innovative performance apparel from technical specifications or prototypes. Analysis of apparel construction related to equipment, cost, quality, end use and customer needs. Lec/lab.

Fashion Trend Analysis  (3 credit hours, lecture course) - The fashion trend forecasting process within the soft goods industry; use of information sources and trend analysis in developing and promoting a fashion product.

Technical drawing, Illustration, and Fashion design (4 credit hours, studio course) - Techniques in technical drawing and fashion illustration; use of computer-aided design applications in the design of apparel. Fashion sketching in various mediums, conception and designing of individual garments and collections and development of a digital fashion design portfolio.

Design and Human Environment Student Fashion Show and Design Exhibition (6 credit hours, studio course) - Annual student fashion show created by students from conception through the final execution of the show. 17 students are accepted into the class (they must apply) and spend 2 terms planning the show from writing a grant for the funding to training models, building a runway, designing the lighting and styling, and promoting the show.  

Corset Making, Strapless Dress (4 credit hours, studio course) - Summer workshops in corset making and couture strapless dressmaking. Each workshop is 2 weeks long and fundamentals of couture sewing are implemented throughout the workshop. Students created 2 different corsets, designed and built a strapless dress with a full understructure.

Computer Design for Apparel (3 credit hours, studio course) - Instruction in drawing, editing, and layout techniques using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Focus on technical drawing in apparel design, color ways, textile design, and technical speciation sheets.

Computer Design for Apparel Online through OSU E-Campus (3 credit hour, online class) - Instruction in drawing, editing, and layout techniques using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Focus on technical drawing in apparel design, color ways, textile design, and technical speciation sheets.

Apparel Construction / Intro to Sewing (4 credit hours, studio course) - Basic construction techniques and processes used to produce apparel. Analysis of apparel construction related to equipment, cost, quality, end use, and customer needs. Focus on both knit and woven textiles. This is a beginning sewing course for apparel design students.
