What is WeWork?
WeWork is a national chain of “co-working communities” – office buildings housing multiple ventures, often startups. Those WeWork “members” share office space, equipment, services and related amenities. The Portland WeWork location is known in the city as the Custom House, 220 N.W. Eighth Ave.
We’re working to expand our footprint in the Portland area. We host MBA classes at the Collaborative Life Sciences Building in the South Waterfront, we team up whenever possible with our Oregon State colleagues at the Food Innovation Center in Northwest Portland, we partner with the OSU Foundation at its space downtown. And now we’re establishing our metro-area headquarters at the WeWork building in the Pearl District. Our new partner’s name does a good job of summing up why we chose WeWork: Here at the College of Business, we work. And we know you do, too. That’s why we became a member at WeWork, joined forces with people who share our entrepreneurial, innovative and results-driven spirit: To have a Portland headquarters from which we can work to serve the metro area better and better.
WeWork gives us the space and support we need to focus on helping you prepare to become the kind of leader your company needs. Your employer wants you to be the person who brings the ethics, creativity and critical thinking needed to solve the complex problems the company faces. We’re growing our presence in Portland to help you be that person.
We’ve been serving MBA students in the metro area with our online/in-person hybrid program since 2013; those students are working professionals do most of their studies online and get together with faculty and classmates twice per term at the Collaborative Life Sciences. We also are always on the lookout for ways to team up with the Food Innovation Center.
Those sites continue to serve us well, but we needed a true home base in the Portland area – a place for students, alumni, business partners and donors to get together with each other and with us. A place where we can all work together to help you become part of the next generation of the state’s business leaders. That’s why we’re at WeWork.
How can you check out WeWork?
We’re hosting an array of events for MBA students, prospective students, corporate partners, alumni, friends and the general public. If you’re interested in visiting the College of Business at WeWork, we urge you to attend one or more of them. We’ll kick things off Feb. 11 with two sessions aimed at prospective MBA students, from noon to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 5 p.m. RSVPs are appreciated but not required and can be made at email@example.com. Then on Feb. 18, we’ll have an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. for anyone who wants to see our new space. Dean Mitzi Montoya and other college leaders will be on hand. In addition, you can book your own tour of the WeWork site at https://www.wework.com/locations/portland/custom-house. WeWork, not the college, handles the tours.
