Oregon State interior design student

Interior Design considers the design of the immediate physical environment. Interior designers plan the inside places of homes, public buildings and commercial establishments. They analyze clients' needs and requirements, lay out space, prepare working drawings and specify interior materials and finishes. They also work to develop appropriate heating and lighting plans, prepare budgets and construction drawings and supervise the installation of the design project.

Courses are focused on the technical and aesthetic aspects of spaces. Courses will provide instruction in:

  • drafting, both traditional and computer assisted
  • history of architecture and furnishings
  • space planning for residential and commercial spaces
  • sustainability and green design
  • sketching and rendering
  • government regulation of buildings, including materials and accessibility

A grade of C- or better is required in all courses within the major. Courses within the major may not be taken with S/U grading.
