Interior Design considers the design of the immediate physical environment. Interior designers plan the inside places of homes, public buildings and commercial establishments. They analyze clients' needs and requirements, lay out space, prepare working drawings and specify interior materials and finishes. They also work to develop appropriate heating and lighting plans, prepare budgets and construction drawings and supervise the installation of the design project.
Courses are focused on the technical and aesthetic aspects of spaces. Courses will provide instruction in:
A grade of C- or better is required in all courses within the major. Courses within the major may not be taken with S/U grading.
The demand for interior designers is high. OSU graduates have become interior designers in design firms, specializing in a particular area such as kitchen design, space planning or lighting design. Graduates have also pursued careers as manufacturers' representatives who show lines to retail buyers.
