Samantha Moffat: Builds success and a strong network of support

Samantha Moffat’s time at Oregon State University reflects what it means to be an engaged, thoughtful and driven member of the College of Business community. Graduating with a major in design and innovation management and a minor in marketing, Moffat has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to bring creativity and strategy together — an approach that has shaped her academic success and impact outside the classroom.

For nearly two years, Moffat has served as a student worker with the College of Business events team, where her contributions have left a lasting impression. Known among her peers and supervisors for her “get it done” attitude, Moffat has gone above and beyond in every task she has taken on. Whether supporting large-scale events or managing behind-the-scenes details, she approaches each responsibility with energy and reliability. Her presence on the team has been invaluable, and her graduation marks a significant loss for those who have come to depend on her leadership and positivity.

During her time with the events team, Moffat stepped naturally into leadership roles, most notably the demanding, exciting and unpredictable sales pitch events each term. Reflecting on these experiences, she shared, “Getting the opportunity to take lead on events like the BA 260 Pitch Competition for my job every term was very rewarding.” These opportunities not only demonstrate her organizational skills and professionalism but also highlight her ability to foster collaboration and create meaningful experiences for others. Her work exemplifies how student leadership can elevate programs and strengthen community within the College of Business.

Academically, Moffat has embraced the core principles of Design & Innovation Management, developing a mindset that balances imaginative thinking with real-world problem-solving. As she explains, “One of the most impactful things I learned at OSU was how to think through and communicate problems from both a creative and strategic perspective.” For Moffat, innovation goes beyond inspiration: “Good ideas aren’t just about creativity," she said. "They need to be grounded in real user needs and executed thoughtfully.” This perspective will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for her future career.

Moffat’s growth during her time at OSU is evident not only in her academic achievements but also in her confidence and leadership. Taking ownership of major events marked a turning point in her journey, giving her the opportunity to apply her skills in dynamic, real-world settings. Her ability to rise to these challenges and deliver successful outcomes speaks to her dedication and adaptability.

Behind Moffat’s success is a strong network of support that has shaped her experience. She credits the College of Business events team for creating an environment that made coming to work both enjoyable and meaningful, noting that her supervisors and peers “made coming to work every day fun.”

In addition, faculty members like Erica Dorn played an important role in encouraging her growth both inside and outside the classroom. These relationships helped foster Moffat’s sense of belonging and motivation throughout her college career.

Outside of her academic and professional commitments, Moffat embraced campus life through involvement in intramural sports, including volleyball, pickleball, softball and flag football. These experiences reflect her team-oriented mindset and willingness to engage with the OSU community in fun, active ways. She also fondly recalls team bonding moments, sharing that “our events team bonding trip to paintball was a pretty fun and memorable way to spend time with each other.”

Following graduation, Moffat plans to take time to regroup before beginning her career, explaining, “I plan on traveling after graduation before starting my career and having too many commitments.” It’s a well-deserved opportunity to explore and gain new perspectives before entering the professional world.
