Zoom in and out on the map below to discover where our most recent Business Information Systems (BIS) graduates are working.
Enrollment in and graduation from the BIS program has grown steadily over the last few years (see graph below).
So where do all of those BIS graduates end up working? A spring 2015 inventory of LinkedIn records for BIS’ers who graduated in the previous five years shows some interesting results.
As the graph below shows, graduates land in a broad spectrum of fields in both the private and public sectors, including software, automotive, health care and accounting.
Some of these categories are dominated by a single company or just a few. For instance, Automotive almost exclusively represents Daimler Trucks North America in Portland. Two other companies that regularly hire BIS graduates are Huron Health Care and Cambia Health Solutions, both present in the Portland area. Hires in the Accounting category are notable because they represent mostly accounting-BIS double degree graduates.
As far as geography is concerned, BIS graduates seem to heavily favor the U.S. West Coast, particularly the Portland area and greater Willamette Valley. Increasingly, though, companies whose focus is national and/or international are hiring our graduates and placing them across the country and sometimes around the world. And when you zoom out of the Google map above, you’ll find a single dot in Kenya. This dot represents a BIS graduate who went on to become a pilot and returned to his native country to fly planes.
We know, by the way, that we have significantly more BIS graduates than we have dots on the map. If only those folks would stay current on LinkedIn, like the four mentioned below:
All of these graduates and countless others are merging their dual talents in business and technology to add value to a wide range of companies and governmental agencies. And those with BIS degrees are among the most sought-after hires in a technology market that's burgeoning.
