What is the Sales Academy?

The OSU Sales Academy is dedicated to promoting leadership and professionalism in the field of sales. Our goal is to introduce sales fundamentals to students through the use of hands-on workshops led by industry sponsors. Students have the opportunity to interact and network with industry sales executives at Sales Academy events as well as participate in regional and national sales competitions. Sales Academy students across all degree programs can enhance their degree with a Certificate in Professional Selling. The academy is open to OSU students of all majors.

Certificate in Professional Selling

Through the Oregon State Sales Academy, students have the opportunity to earn their certificate of professional selling. The program is designed for OSU students interested in a career as a sales professional or interested in learning sales skills. The certificate enhances any student résumé and degree program at Oregon State. It is an accomplishment that gives students a competitive career advantage in any sales or business-related career.

Earn your certificate

  1. Submit an application form online
  2. Complete the following coursework prior to graduation:
    1. Corporate sales training modules
    2. Eight Sales Academy sponsor-led workshops
  3. Attend the "Intro to Sales Academy" workshop (offered fall term)
  4. Compete in Oregon State's Sales Competition or a national competition (one opportunity per term)
  5. Attend a College of Business Career Fair

Pacific Office Automation Northwest Collegiate Sales Competition

Pacific Office Automation Northwest Collegiate Sales Competition

The annual Pacific Northwest Collegiate Sales Competition brings together students from area universities to test their sales skills and abilities to close the deal. Hosted by the OSU Sales Academy, the competition is sponsored by leading national companies including platinum sponsor, Pacific Office Automation, and silver sponsor, American International Forest Products.

The event kicks off with a welcome reception where student competitors have the opportunity to meet and network with representatives from our corporate sponsors. The sales competition and awards reception follow. 

Competition Rules and Format


All participants compete individually in a 12-minute first-round sales role play. The six highest scoring students move on to the final round. The final round consists of another 12-minute sales role play. The role plays are based on a unique scenario involving the sale of Pacific Office Automation products to a fictional buyer, played by POA representatives. Students are evaluated on their sales skills during the role play by a panel of judges provided by our sponsors.

You are invited to the Friday evening welcome reception at the OSU Portland Center. Judging information and logistics for the Saturday Northwest Collegiate Sales Competition will be sent to you by TBD.  If you have additional questions, please contact Caitlyn Gill. The individual competitors who earn the highest number of points from the judges in the final round win cash prizes.

$1,500 – Winner

$1,000 – 2nd Place

$500 – 3rd Place

Each participating college or university may send multiple students to the competition. Each university also names a faculty coach who assists in preparing students for the role plays during the weeks prior to the competition and attends the competition with the students. Training materials are provided in the weeks leading up to the competition.

Get Involved

Sales Academy hosts a variety of events throughout the academic year including sales career fairs, sales competitions and professional development workshops. These events provide students with an opportunity to develop their communication skills and enhance their confidence. We also offer student internships within Sales Academy. These executive level positions simulate real-world sales positions. All events and internships are open to any OSU students, regardless of major.
