Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion

Inclusive Excellence

The OSU College of Business recognizes that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are imperative to the success of our students, our faculty, our staff and our communities. Students choose OSU because of our tradition as an institution dedicated to the success of all Oregonians. We are proud to continue this legacy through our commitment to inclusive excellence.

That’s why we’ve made inclusion one of the core priorities in our strategic plan. We’re investing in programs and initiatives to further diversify the demographics and experiences of our students, faculty and staff. We’re strengthening our community partnerships, prioritizing professional development programs for women in business, and establishing ourselves as a regional thought leader in diversity, equity and inclusion in business.

Key Elements of Inclusive Excellence

Diversity

Diversity is the way we leverage the differences among our College of Business community’s experiences, values and backgrounds to promote creativity, curiosity and success.

Equity

Equity ensures we account for differences in background and access to opportunity so that all members of the College of Business community have a fair chance at achievement.

Inclusion

Inclusion is how members of the College of Business community work together to create a culture of welcoming, belonging and engagement.

Join Us: Scholarships and Funding

We recognize that a large part of inclusive excellence is ensuring our future students can navigate any financial barriers they or their families might experience. This is why we have programs specifically designed to support our students. These programs allow our students to learn more about how to pay for college, creating a strong budget, or finding additional resources to minimize the financial commitment of our students.

Get Support: Programs to Facilitate Student Success

In addition to our award-winning education-to-career curriculum Blueprint model that is aimed at supporting all students' professional development, we have created programs to offer additional assistance to enable greater equity in the process of attaining academic success. Regardless of your background or situation, you belong here, and we’re on your side.

Some of the programs we offer within the College of Business to assist students in their academic success include:

  • Bound for Business Program – It can be particularly difficult to attend college when you’re the first in your family to do so. To help with this, we offer a program for first-generation students to support their transition to the university. Includes early move-in to the residence halls and programming; a year-long course with the same instructor, peer and professional mentoring, and additional scholarships.
  • International Student Support – Being outside of one’s own country can be intimidating. Recognizing this, the College of Business has partnered with INTO to support international students through their journey from INTO to graduation. We provide 1:1 support from the College of Business, orientation to the expectations within the College, peer mentorship, and ongoing events/programs meant to welcome and support our international students.

We also encourage students to explore all avenues of support available to them. Some additional programs at OSU to explore include:

  • Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) – EOP supports the academic, personal, and professional development of students who have traditionally been denied equal access to higher education, including but not limited to students of color, low-income students, first- generation students, returning older-than-average students, single parents, rurally isolated students, veterans, undocumented students, and students with disabilities. EOP provides a welcoming environment which includes smaller classes, academic counseling, and innovative programs and services designed to enhance retention and persistence. Visit the EOP website for more information on eligibility and application information.
  • College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) – CAMP is a federally-funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds during their first year in college. The program provides personal, financial and academic support for students, as well as social and cultural enrichment activities. Visit the CAMP website for more information on eligibility and application information.
  • TRIO SSS – TRIO SSS is a federally-funded program which provides services to students who meet at least one of the following criteria: 1) being from the first generation in their family in college (neither parent has a four year degree); 2) meeting low-income guidelines; 3) having either a physical or learning disability. Services offered by TRIO SSS include a summer bridge program for new students, academic skills assessment, supplemental academic and personal advising and more. Visit the TRIO SSS website for more information on services and to find out how to apply.

Build Community: Meet Friends and Build Community

We want students to feel comfortable and to have a strong sense of community within the College of Business. This is why we have programs to help students navigate the ins and outs of college life here at OSU.

  • Peer to Peer Mentor Program – This program gives every incoming student a peer-mentor. This mentor helps guide and support them through the ups and downs of their first year in the College of Business.
  • Professional Mentor Program – This program designed for incoming first year and transfer students to be matched with a professional mentor who is a graduate from the College of Business.
  • Graduate and Student Ambassadors – Current graduate and undergraduate students involved in the ambassador program lead welcome events, campus tours, information sessions and 1:1 meetings with prospective students to provide an insider’s view of life in the classroom and beyond.
