Your learning Blueprint

Blueprint is both curriculum and action, for classes that create an immersive experience and prepare students with real-world skills.

Award-winning Blueprint courses

Blueprint courses span the College of Business academic program, with 12 courses across four years of study focused on building professionalism and real-world skills. Students develop communication, personal branding and career planning through hands-on practice and mentorship. Coursework includes topics such as evaluating job offers, navigating difficult conversations and managing personal finances.

As part of Blueprint, students also take a transition course during their first year. These small, supportive classes help students build confidence, connect with peers and get oriented to college life at OSU.

In class, students explore time management, study strategies, goal setting and early career pathways while learning about campus resources and opportunities in their major. Instructors serve as consistent points of support, connecting students with advising, tutoring, wellness services and other resources as needed.

Blueprint is designed to support the full college experience, helping students build skills, relationships and confidence from their first term through graduation.

The First year Experience

First-year students join Innovation Nation, a living-learning community for business and design students. You will live, learn and create alongside your peers in Weatherford and Poling residence halls, just across from Austin Hall.

In your classes, you will learn in small cohorts and work on team projects. At the same time, you and a small group of peers will launch a microbusiness. You will develop a product, build a business plan, and take it to market. In the DAMLab makerspace, you will get hands-on experience bringing your ideas to life.

You will market and sell your product, earning real profit along the way. By graduation, you will have real-world business experience and a standout story for your resume.

Transfer Students

Transfer students have dedicated courses to help you get involved from day one and transition smoothly into life as a Beaver in Business. You will build connections, gain confidence, and quickly find your place in the college.

Professional mentors are available to transfer students and can be matched to your interests and career goals — helping you set benchmarks and navigate key decisions along the way.

Our transfer support network connects you with peers, resources, and programming tailored to the transfer experience, so you can stay informed and engaged.

We are here to help you get up to speed at OSU, finish strong, and graduate prepared. If you have questions about how your credits transfer or which major fits your goals, you can connect with Alexa Johnson, Transfer Transitions Coordinator.

Ecampus Students

As an Ecampus student, you are part of a nationally top-ranked online learning community at Oregon State University, designed to give you flexibility while maintaining strong academic quality and connection.

You learn from the same world-class faculty as on-campus students and earn the same Oregon State degree. Courses are designed to be interactive and engaging, helping you stay connected with instructors and classmates while building real-world skills.

You also have access to a full network of support services, including academic advising, tutoring, success coaching and library resources. These tools are in place to help you stay on track, feel supported and succeed throughout your program.

It’s the most corny thing, but it is truly what happened. I was standing in the middle of the Memorial Union, and I realized how welcomed and comfortable I felt. I knew it would be a place where I could be myself while pursuing my professional goals.

Find your success at College of Business

Advice from our student engagement team

How to start strong as a College of Business student.

First-year freshmen

How to start strong at the College of Business

Advice from our student engagement team

First a foremost, remember to have fun. Your years at Oregon State will be ones you remember forever. So take lots of pictures, journal your experience — soak it in. Over summer, create a visual or media representation of what you want your time in college to be like and then chase your dreams.

Rest.  Your brain and body is going to go though a transition as you enter college. Getting into a habit of resting before jumping into new or challenging situations is going to benefit you. Many wait until the burnout to rest. Set yourself up for long term success by prioritizing your mental and physical health.

Know your why (or be in the process of figuring it out).  Many people will give you reasons why you should be at OSU or their club/organization. But you need to know why you want to be here. Keep your reason simple and at the forefront of your mind. Let this be what encourages and motivates you to keep going. Perseverance makes you strong!

Ask others for advice or help. Seek out people around you who’ve shared a similar experience. Find the people who believe in you and ask them how they managed the transition. Never be afraid to ask for help. Some of the strongest leaders today ask for the most help.

Transfer students

How to have a smooth transition into Oregon State

Advice from our student engagement team

Get oriented to campus.  Take time to locate your classrooms, study spaces, advising offices and student support areas before the term begins. Knowing where to go saves time and lowers stress during busy weeks.

Plug into the College of Business community.  Even if you don’t live on campus, you belong here. Look for events, student organizations, instructor office hours and college‑specific spaces where you can meet peers and instructors to build connections.

Ask for help early and advocate for yourself.  Transfer students often jump right into upper‑division coursework. If questions or challenges arise, reaching out early to instructors, advisors, or support teams. This will make a big difference in your confidence and success.

Plan for commuting and time on campus.  Build your class schedule, commute time and study time into a realistic weekly plan. Identify gaps between classes when you can stay on campus to study, meet with peers or access resources.

Connect with advising early.  Transfer students benefit from checking in early to confirm degree progress, understand College of Business expectations and plan next steps toward graduation. Be proactive!

Ecampus

How to feel connected and supported throughout distant learning

Advice from our student engagement team

Engage early. You belong here.  Watch for pre‑term communications, virtual events and student communities. Early engagement helps you feel connected and supported before the term begins.

Make sure your technology is ready. Confirm reliable access to a computer, internet, and required software—and know where to get technical help before classes start. This is most important to our online learners.

Get organized before the term begins. Log into Canvas, review course expectations if available and plan dedicated time each week for coursework to avoid last‑minute stress.

Know your support resources. Familiarize yourself with Ecampus and College of Business support options, including tutoring, advising, success coaching and library services, so help is easy to access when you need it.

Stay on pace and reach out early. Online learning offers flexibility, but success in Ecampus comes from consistent time management, keeping up with weekly coursework and connecting with instructors or support teams as soon as questions arise. Students are encouraged to connect early if questions or challenges arise—support is built in to help you succeed.
