Course Overview

Achieving success in project management hinges on the art of meticulous planning and strategic initiation from the project's outset. This vital groundwork necessitates a profound understanding of project origination principles and the proficiency to anticipate challenges proactively, ensuring that your projects unfurl without a hitch.

In our Project Origination, Planning, and Defining Scope course, you will embark on a transformative journey that equips you with the knowledge and skills essential for infallible project planning. By the course's conclusion, you will have gained an encompassing comprehension of the entire project planning process, anchored in best practices. This knowledge will empower you to master the art of project origination for success, adeptly initiate critical elements like stakeholder registers, and skillfully craft project charters and assumption logs.

Course Format

Instructor-led week-to-week cadence, with assignments, discussion boards, and learning assessments (quizzes) opening on Monday and to be completed by the end of the week. This gives students flexibility to review materials at their leisure. Additionally, recorded lectures and video recordings are available to enhance learning objectives.

Project Manager, Finance and Administration at Oregon State University

Tze-Yiu Yong has over 25 years of professional experience as an engineer, manager and project manager in the areas of high tech, healthcare, machine learning and academia. He has managed projects in all functions of the organization including R&D, operations, IT and marketing, and he currently works as a project manager at Oregon State University. Here he drives programs related to student recruitment and retention, online learning, and student success analytics.

Passionate about raising the awareness of the necessity of project managers, he also currently serves as the Vice President of Marketing for a regional chapter of the Project Management Institute in Oregon where he calls home.
