Are the courses online and do they include live sessions?

Yes, all of our courses are delivered fully online. Most are asynchronous, allowing you to complete the work on your own schedule. Group-paced courses may include optional check-ins or discussion boards, but no live sessions are required.

What is the difference between a self-paced and group-paced course?

Self-paced courses allow you to work on your own schedule within a 90-day access window. Group-paced courses run on fixed dates and include instructor check-ins, weekly pacing, and interaction with peers.

Will I receive a certificate when I complete the course?

Yes! You’ll receive a Certificate of Completion after successfully completing each course, and a Program Certitifcate of Completion once all required courses are completed in a certificate program. These are available for download through your Ideal-Logic student portal.

Do continuing education courses count towards a degree?

No, these are non-credit professional development courses. However, they may qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) or be eligible for reimbursement by your employer.

Some institutions may accept credit earned for non-credit courses as applicable towards a degree. The decision is ultimately that of the institution you plan to transfer the credit to. It is the responsibility of the student to confirm the transferability with the other institution.

What are Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?

CEUs are a nationally recognized way to document participation in non-credit learning activities. One CEU equals 10 contact hours of instruction. Many of our courses offer between 2.0 to 2.4 CEUs, which reflect 20–24 hours of total learning time.

Who can take continuing education courses?

Our programs are open to anyone, regardless of academic background or enrollment at Oregon State University. They're designed for working professionals, career changers, and lifelong learners seeking practical, skill-based training.

What types of continuing education programs or certificates do you offer?

We offer a variety of non-credit certificate programs and individual courses designed to support working professionals. Topics include project management, human resources, digital marketing, business analytics, finance, Lean Six Sigma, nonprofit leadership, and more.

What is the average class size?

Class sizes fluctuate depending on several variables. The further a student progresses through their major, the smaller the classes tend to be. A typical class will sit 30-70 students, while larger lecture halls can seat up to 400 students. Lecture classes typically allow for personalization through labs and small group sessions, called recitations, which tend to be about 20 students in size. Only 17% of our classes seat over 100 students. Austin hall is the home to the College of Business and includes one 250-seat auditorium, one 65-seat classroom, and eight 48-seat classrooms.

Are students matched with an advisor? What do the advisors do?

The College of Business has a dedicated team of academic advisors who support students throughout their time at Oregon State University, helping them navigate course selection, degree requirements, and pathways to their business and design majors. This personalized support ensures students stay on track academically and make informed decisions about their education and career goals.

What is the Career Success Center?

The College of Business is home to the only college-specific career center on campus, offering dedicated support to business students in their academic and professional journeys. Our team works closely with students through one-on-one appointments to provide personalized guidance on resumes, interview preparation, job and internship searches, and major or career exploration. To further support student success, the College hosts a variety of events each term—including career fairs, workshops, and professional meet-ups—that encourage engagement beyond the classroom. Each term features a College of Business Career Fair, held virtually and in person, where students connect with 45+ recruiters offering valuable opportunities for internships and full-time roles. These experiences help students build their professional networks, gain real-world experience while in school, and prepare for career success after graduation.
