What should I expect at the graduation ceremony?

Graduates will be seated in the center row of chairs in the Austin Hall Quad, and guest seating is first-come, first-served in all other seats. Following a faculty processional, we'll hear from the Dean of the College of Business. Some programs will have keynote speakers and some majors will be giving out student awards. Following speakers and awards, graduate names will be called individually and graduates will walk across stage to receive a graduation gift, a College of Business stole.

What is the dress code? Do I need to wear regalia/cap and gown?

Although there is no real dress code, many graduates and guests choose to dress up for this special day. We suggest Business Casual attire, and encourage you to consider how you want to look in photos from your graduation day. Regalia (cap and gown) is optional, but you are welcome to wear it - about 60% of the students who attend Business Graduation choose to wear their cap and gown. Students can purchase regalia from the OSU Beaver Store.  There will be a Grad Fair at the Beaver Store on April 21 and April 22. Students can email customer.service@osubeaverstore.com or call 800-595-0357 for details.

If I register for Commencement, can I just come to the College of Business ceremony?

You must register separately for each ceremony that you would like to attend. Registering only for OSU Commencement does not register you for the College of Business Ceremony, and registering only for the College of Business Ceremony does not register you to walk in Commencement. You are welcome to attend both, but you must register separately for both.

How is the College of Business Graduation Ceremony different from the OSU Commencement?

The College of Business Graduation Ceremonies and OSU Commencement at Reser Stadium are very different experiences. The College of Business Ceremonies are organized by school, and much smaller than the one in Reser, which allows the College the opportunity to be more personalized, read the names of each graduate in attendance, and to give graduates a graduation gift in the form of a College of Business stole. Graduates (other than Masters and Ph.D. candidates) will NOT have their names read at Commencement in Reser Stadium on June 14. For this reason, some graduates and their families prefer the College of Business ceremony as it feels more intimate and graduates’ names are read aloud.

However, Commencement in Reser Stadium delivers the wonderful sense of “pomp and circumstance” that one may expect from a university as large as OSU, and diplomas are also handed out at Commencement. Graduates are invited and welcome to attend either or both ceremonies as they choose, but should be aware of the differences.
