CPE-how log in

How do I log in to Canvas?

Students can visit http://cpe.oregonstate.edu/ to register for a course, access a course, or view certificates for completed courses.

CPE-what's canvas

What is Canvas?

Canvas Catalog is the learning environment for online education. All CPE online courses and certificates utilize the Canvas interface for all coursework, including but not limited to assignments, discussion boards, and quizzes.

CPE-tuition assistance

I am using tuition assistance through my employer, the Trade Adjustment Act, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc. How do I register and have them pay for the program?

CPE creates a registration code for the student to register for the online course or certificate. The CPE team works with the payment authorizer to process payment for the program.

Please email cpe@oregonstate.edu to start this process and for more information.

CPE-financial aid

Are CPE courses or certificates eligible for federal financial aid or payment plans?

While we do not offer scholarships or federal financial aid, students can enroll in a single course versus signing-up for certification programs and automatically enrolled in all upcoming sessions. Students can opt to register separately for individual sessions; the cost is the same per course. Additionally, all students are eligible to receive a certificate upon completing the required courses in a certificate program, regardless of how they enrolled.

CPE-missed enrollment date

I missed the enrollment date for a course/certificate start. When is the next offering of the program?

If you have missed a start date, please join our mailing list, and we will send monthly notices ahead of our next planned offering. Most OSU Continuing and Professional Education courses are offered multiple times a year. Courses that are part of a certificate series follow the cycle of the series. There is no set order for completing courses within a certificate program; students have the flexibility to take courses as their schedule allows.

CPE-drop course

How do I drop a course? Am I eligible for a refund?

Students have until the start of the final week of the course to drop a course. They can email the drop request to cpe@oregonstate.edu.

Unless otherwise specified, the final refund date for courses is as follows: For courses with a single meeting, the refund deadline is before the start of class. For online courses, refund requests must be in writing and received within seven calendar days of the course's start date. Any requests for refund beyond the deadlines above are up to the discretion of the director.

CPE-how register

How do I register for a course? Do I need to apply to OSU?

Students enroll by navigating their way to the online certificate or individual course pages. Students input the required information to create their account and pay for the course or certification by following the prompts.

Students of OSU Continuing and Professional Education do not need to apply to Oregon State University through the Office of Admissions because CPE programming is non-credited and operates separately from the university’s academic system.

CPE-count towards degree

Do continuing education courses count towards a degree? Are they transferable?

CPE online courses and certificates do not count toward a degree. Some institutions may accept credit earned for our courses as applicable towards a degree. The decision is ultimately that of the institution you plan to transfer the credit to. It is the responsibility of the student to confirm the transferability with the other institution.

CPE-What CEU

What are Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of measure for non-credit continuing education programs. It is used to document learning that differs from the traditional academic learning experience.

One CEU is equivalent to 10 contact hours of participation in a continuing education learning experience. Many of the CPE online courses average two CEUs per course.

CPE - how offered

How are the courses offered?

Courses are 100% online with no set in-class times that students are required to be online.

Most programs offer online courses that run on an instructor-led week-to-week cadence, with assignments and learning assessments (quizzes) completed by the end of the week. This gives students some flexibility to review materials at their leisure. Additionally, recorded lectures and video recordings are available to enhance learning objectives.

We also offer self-paced programs with students learning on their schedule at their best pace. All online courses have the instructor's oversight but are not led by instructors week-to-week. The instructor is available to answer questions and provide guidance through chat, as needed.
