The Center for Family Enterprise conducts research that positively impacts the family business community through collaborations at Oregon State University and beyond, and by convening researchers who want to help businesses thrive.

Our goal is to help create positive cultures in family businesses by offering evidence-based, practical research they can use.


Research News

  • The Center for Family Enterprise hosted the Family Business Alliance annual meeting in June 2022 in Portland.
  • In 2021, Center for Family Enterprise Director Ted Paterson presented a paper entitled “Converting Entrepreneur Identity Aspiration into Followership Outcomes Via Thriving: An Identity-based Motivation Perspective” at the Southern Academy of Management Annual Meeting. The paper was a finalist for the best paper award for the entrepreneurship and family business track.
  • Paterson presented at the Family Enterprise Research Conference in 2021. His talk, “Exploring the ‘Fertile Territory’ at the Intersection of Positive Organizational Scholarship and Family Business Research” explored opportunities for family business researchers to draw from positive psychology to inform their research.
  • Finance Professor Jimmy Yang’s 2021 paper, “Family Control, External Governance Mechanisms, and Dividend Payouts” was published in the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance.
  • In promotion of family business research at the College of Business, the center awarded a $5,000 research grant to a faculty member, Violetta Gerasymenko, Ph.D. to support data collection on family-owned businesses in Mexico.

 

Upcoming Events

  • The center has been selected to host the 2023 Family Enterprise Research Conference in Portland. We are proud to be counted among a select group of research-active family business centers contributing to the knowledge base on family business.
