Course Description

Gathering data through confidential interviews can provide the advisor with a comprehensive view of the family business system. In this course, we detail the types of data that should be gathered about the family, the individual, and the business simultaneously and the purpose for the information. The advisor will learn the primary objectives of a formal assessment and learn the value of the family sharing their thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. The sequence of gathering and analyzing data, preparing and submitting a report, and convening a feedback session will be detailed.

Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Assess the vitality of the business, the impact that family members have on its viability, and the sound business practices
  • Determine what information and data to gather and for what purpose during the assessment
  • Breakdown the process of interviewing and determine who is interviewed
  • Determine critical questions to ask during interviews for focus  
  • Define and highlight the formal vs. informal report and how to share results
